Social media had become an integral part of our life over the years. After food, water and shelter all we need is a mobile phone with internet. We post pictures, videos and updates. We check our phone again and again for notifications. We take pain of constantly checking likes and comments on our social media account. Social media is consuming more and more of our time and most of us are living our lives inside the 6 inches screen of our mobile phones.
Too much time wasting on Social Media
One survey indicates that in India and average person uses his smartphone for around 6 hours a day. So if we sleep for 6 hours it means that we spent 1/3rd of our waking hours staring on a small screen. Now imagine wasting 1/3rd of your life daily inside a screen away from a real world.
Everyone wants to be an influencer
Yes you heard it correct, we follows influencers and we want to be like them. We want to get famous, each one of us, whether you agree or not. We human loves fame. But when we post our content on social media and did not get the response we wanted, then we kind of feel depressed.
Online abuse and harassments
Online bullying and abuse is there since the dawn of social media in the early 2000's. Whether its a creep stalking the profile of girls and sending them dirty messages. Or some narcissist people who comment extremely negative in order to bring down the moral of any content creator, there is always an online harassment in every part of the world.
Lack of real world interaction
As I said people spent 1/3rd of their waking hours inside a screen. Due to this there is a decline in the real world interactions. We don't have time to talk face to face even with our family. Gone are the days when we interact in person with our friends and relatives.
Wasting time in looking and thinking about other people's life
When you are scrolling the photos and videos posted by others you are literally wasting your time by looking and analyzing other people's life. You are on this planet to live and enjoy your life.
What do you get by knowing that one of your classmate from your school who you had never really talked is married now and going honeymoon in Bali. What do you get by seeing the gorgeous girl from your college is now a strong single women posting picture with her pet dogs & cats. I mean come on you have limited time on this planet and all you are doing on your phone is wasting time.

Constant distraction due to notifications
One new post on Facebook, notification. Someone gives a heart on your picture on Instagram, notification. Someone posted anything random on a WhatsApp group in which you were added by your relative, notification. The more number of notifications the more distracted we are. If we want to accomplish anything good with our life then we need focus and consistency. And these stupid notifications are killing our focus.
Sleep Deprivation
You stay awake late night. Every social media user is the victim of sleep deprivation. After a long day at work we felt tired and want to go bed for sleep. But then you just check phone thinking to use it for few minutes. But those few minutes gets converted to hours while you were constantly scrolling posts and videos. And when you realise its already 2-3 AM. You lost your precious sleep time thanks to your phone.
Fear of missing out
The another reason why we are addicted to social media is that we feel fear of missing out or fear of left behind the world. We want to go know every trending news, every new trend so that we could feel updated and informed. This is also related to fear of looking awkward among your friends and peer that you don't know any latest trend or you are very old school.
Everyone is Faking their life on Social media
Almost everything on social media is fake. People always share photos and videos of good times. No one shares their life problems and miseries. So while scrolling social media it seems like that everyone is having fun and enjoying their life to the fullest. But this is not actually the case. So what you are seeing on social media is only half of the story.
Final thoughts
Social media is not the real world. Neither it will add anything valuable to your life unless until you use it like a tool. Yes, use social media forms as tool of entertainment, use these platforms to showcase the world your talent by creating content instead of consuming content, use them as a contact tool to connect to your potential customers to grow your business. My point is don't be just a consumer of social media, be wise in its use.
