What if your parents do not support you

If you are from India and your parents do not support you in anything then you are not alone. Almost all of our parents are like that.

Some of the common reasons why parents don't support you and criticize your decisions are below.

  • The main reason why there are so many disagreement between our parents and us is the 'Generation Gap'. Generation gap  refers to the differences between thoughts and opinions among persons of two different generations. Due to this generation gap sometimes your parents are not able to grasp your viewpoint and hence disagree with most of your decisions.
  • Most of the parents think that their children are young and naive. They estimate that you since you don't have enough experience with life, you are not mature enough to take right decisions.
  • Some parents are too much over protective with their sons & daughters. They wants to be around you all the time. Wants to accompany you where ever you go. They will encircle you to the point you will feel like your freedom has been lost and you are suffocated.
  • Apart from above point, some parents are either just plain toxic or stupid. A toxic person can't handle anyone's happiness. On the other hand a stupid person never able to figure out right and wrong. So if your parents are plain stupid or toxic your unhappiness is guaranteed.
Now, we have figured out the problem that your parents are not supportive of your decisions, so its time to discuss what are the possible solutions to deal with this situation.
  • If you have some passion to pursue and you are sure that parents will not agree with it. Better to work on that passion side by side and when you produced some visible result, then show it to your parents. For example the famous actor Kartik Aryan never told his parents about his dream of becoming an actor till he got his first film break. His parents just wants him to be an engineer. So he intentionally took admission in one of the engineering college in Mumbai. In this way his parents were satisfied that their son is doing what they want. And on the other hand Kartik was giving auditions and pursuing his dream. So my point is you can pursue your dream or passion without conflicting with your parents.
  • If you don't need financial assistance from your parents for pursuing something. And you think that what you are doing is ethical and right for you. then just do it. You don't always needs your parents approval to proceed for something. If something is ethical and right then just do it. Results will speak for you.
  • Be financially independent as early as you can. Because your parents greatest fear is to see you struggle with money. Yes, no parents wants their kids to be poor. So they stress much on studies and push you to get good jobs. So, once you become financially independent, their fear will gone and then they will hardly bother you with anything.
  • But some times people got toxic and controlling parents . They just want to control your life. For these kinds of parents there is only one solution start earning as early as possible and then just get far away from them. Because a control freak will always interfere with your life as long as you live near them.
