Why Motivation is useless and How motivational speakers are fooling you?

Whenever  you scroll through social media, many a times you might have seen many videos, reels and post with some motivational quote or story. You might have heard or followed some motivational Guru on YouTube who is telling people things they already know and selling tickets for his seminar , workshops or any of his online courses. But have you ever tried to figure out why do you need help from these motivational Gurus in the first place?


Why do you need motivational Gurus

No matter what we are doing with our lives there are always challenges. Whether you are student, working professional or you are from any walks of life, you always have challenges and problems. Now, we always workout something to solve our problems but due to the constant struggles in our life we often feel demotivated, down and weak. So in that case we look outside in order to get some help and encouragement from others. But since the people around us whether its our family or our friends have the their set of problems so nobody really cares about others. Now, in order to get our momentum back we go to social media and internet to consume some motivational content from famous motivational speakers. And then starts the toxic cycle of getting motivated and then hitting the ground again.

Why you loves to hear motivational stuff 

When you listen to your favorite motivational speaker you feel better. You then back to work with new enthusiasm. You started all over again. You are like a strong force of nature who can accomplish anything. It seems like you will not only achieve your goals but you will surpass them. But after few days or maybe weeks, you start feeling down again. You are feeling lost and demotivated again. And you again went back to watch & listen motivational stuff. Then the whole cycle repeats over and over again. So what's exactly is the real reason behind this. Its the Dopamine in your brain.

What is Dopamine and how is it related to Motivation 

Dopamine is basically a 'Feel Good' harmone that is released in your brain when you feel any kind of pleasure. Our brain loves Dopamine triggers since this Dopamine rush makes us happy and excited. So if anything or any activity activity triggers dopamine rush, we would subconsciously want to do that again & again. Now, when we watch any motivational stuff on internet or live we feel excitement and pleasure. Because the motivational speakers are professionals. They know very well how to play with emotions. They talk in extra enthusiastic language, narrate stories of 'rags to riches' and sometimes even give false hopes to the audience. So, after feeling them our focus shifted from our problems and we felt relaxed and good.

Why motivation is temporary

As I explained, motivation is nothing but Dopamine rush in our brain. Now, since our brain can't be remain in high dopamine state all the time, we can't remain motivated for long. Thus, motivation is temporary and nothing meaningful can be achieved from any temporary feeling. 

How motivational speaker making money

They simply play with your insecurities , your brain, your emotions and earn loads of money through you. As I explained above motivation is temporary feeling. So when it vanishes your brain urges to get that excitement again because of dopamine and then you went back to your motivational guru and this cycle repeats again & again. This is exactly they want. They don't want to solve your problem. They just want to sell you their  products. Their books, their seminars, their workshops and what not. Now some of you might argue that you are not going to any seminar, neither you purchase their books. You just watching them online and its free to you. No, its not. There is a very simple saying about this, that if you don't have to pay for the product..you are the product. You are their content consumer. You spend hundreds of hour watching their videos which earns them money anyway. Also it helps them to get mass reach to audience on internet.

What is the Solution

If we want to accomplish anything we have to make an execution plan and work hard to execute it. Also we must be always ready to face the challenges on our way since life is totally unpredictable. Although some little motivation is helpful to get started in the beginning. But to achieve something we need to keep get going. And his can be  only achieved with Discipline and persistence.  We have to work hard, work everyday and even when we don't feel like it doing. If we look at the life of any successful person, they were driven by passion and persistence and not by motivation.
